Here is the Pastoral Staff of New Beginnings Community Church!

Butch Bowersox, Senior Pastor

Butch is the founding pastor of New Beginnings. After coming to Frostburg in July of 1999, he discovered the need of a non-traditional church in the area that would reach out to individuals who did not know Jesus or those who knew Jesus but were not being ministered to by traditional churches. In March of 2001, Butch and his wife, Connie, took a step of faith and opened the doors of New Beginnings. God has been faithful to bless that step of faith ever since!

Butch was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania in 1965 (you do the math) and moved to Florida in 1978. After turning away from God in his late teens and early twenties, he recommitted his life to Christ in November of 1989. In 1991, he met and married his wife, Connie, and he was active in his local church in Lehigh, FL as part-time Associate Pastor. In 1995, while still working as a computer programmer, Butch sensed God calling him to full-time pastoral ministry and in June of 1996, the family sold their home and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to attend Nazarene Bible College.

In May of 1999, Butch graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies and moved to Frostburg, MD, to pastor the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene. Butch planted the New Beginnings church in March of 2001 and in January of 2003, he sensed God calling him to break away from the Church of the Nazarene (click here to read why) to become an independent, non-denominational church. It was then New Beginnings became New Beginnings Community Church.

Butch and Connie have two children: Kristen (born in 1995) and Bradley (born in 1998). Butch enjoys many sports—golf being the favorite sport to play at the moment!

Pete Teel, Associate Pastor

Pete was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in late fall of 1966, but was relocated to the South (Alabama) at the age of 4. He grew up in a city called Mobile and lived there for a good chunk of his life. His grandparents, who lived next door, would take Pete to Sunday school and worship services at a little Baptist church.

In 1995, following the death of a loved one, Pete began searching for answers to questions of a spiritual nature. It was at this point that he saw himself as a sinner in need of forgiveness from God, and he is most thankful to say that he came into a personal relationship with God through His son, Jesus.

One thing led to another and in 1997 Pete left his career as a sales supervisor and took his wife and two children (with a third one on the way) to Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO to study and prepare for full-time ministry. It was a wonderful, albeit, tough time and one of the neat things that took place there was his meeting Butch Bowersox, the founding pastor of New Beginnings Community Church.

Pete graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and headed back south to pastor in the Church of the Nazarene where he and his family made a lot of friends, saw God work in some pretty neat ways and got to really grow in the Christian faith.

In December of 2005, during the course of a phone conversation, Butch informed Pete that they were looking for an Associate Pastor to come on board. Pete and his wife, Sandy, after prayerful consideration, came one Sunday to New Beginnings to check it out. They both knew before they left that morning that God was going too bring them here... and He did!

Pete, his wife (Sandra), and his daughters (Alicia, Kathleen, Grace, & Rebecca) love it in Frostburg and hope to have many fruitful years of ministry here.

As a family, they like to camp and cheer for the Washington Redskins--although secretly, Pete is a Philadelphia Eagles fan! Pete enjoys cooking Mexican and Italian foods and playing video games with his girls and spending time outdoors in the cold weather.

The Teels have found the people of New Beginnings Community Church to be a warm, fun-loving bunch that take their faith seriously and are more interested in learning about how to live it out rather than impressing others with it. Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about them and if you are ever in Frostburg, be sure to look them up! According to Pete, he just knows that Butch would love to buy you all a cup of coffee!

Michelle Maust, Children's Pastor

Michelle is the Children’s Pastor of New Beginnings. She has been working with the children at New Beginnings for the last couple of years. You can check out our Children's Ministry page by clicking here!

Michelle was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1978. She grew up in Cecil County, MD with her parents, brother, and two sisters. Michelle is close to her family and still travels back to see them when she can! Michelle went to a Baptist church all through childhood and accepted Christ on July 24, 1994 and was baptized a month later.

In May of 1999, Michelle graduated with her Associate’s of Arts Degree in General Studies. It was around this time she sensed God calling her to change the course of her studies from nursing (pre-med) to education. She then moved to Frostburg in 1999 and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education in the spring of 2001. She experienced some rough college days and turned away from God during this time period but rededicated her life to Christ on July 24, 2001. Michelle sensed God guiding her to stay in Frostburg and continue her education.  In May of 2003, she graduated with her Master’s Degree in Special Education.

After graduation Michelle sensed God calling her to stay in Frostburg once again and continue her ministry with the children at New Beginnings! She originally felt called to ministry while working on her Associate’s Degree but was unsure what it all was going to look like! God has been faithful to reveal His plan to her step by step and has reaffirmed that call several times in her life!

In addition to being the Children’s Pastor at New Beginnings, Michelle is also a Special Education teacher at an area public school. Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and other family and friends. She also enjoys spending time playing softball and going to the driving range!
